One of my quirks is that I hate wrinkled clothes. While laundry is my least favorite thing to do, I do like to iron. Strange......I know.
Last night, I was catching up on tons of laundry and doing a lot of ironing. My problem is I do the laundry and instead of immediately hanging it up from the dryer, I put it on the bed and move onto something else. Then, eventually I get the ironing board out, put a good movie in and start getting rid of those wrinkles!!
I came across one of my girls shirts which is a button up and cotton.....lots and lots of wrinkles!!! I sprayed it down with starch and went to work. Ironing, pressing, steaming my way thru. This shirt was definitely a challenge, ..... but I WON! It sure did look good hanging there on the hanger after I was done. I think I even saw it sparkle a little.
While I had been ironing, I had been praying. Bobby and I are going thru a valley right now and some days I can see clearly and some days I cant. We all have burdens and request that we need to lay at His feet, and I was talking to God about each one of them. But sometimes we don't know what to say when we are praying about our valleys. We are just not certain what to ask for. SO, when we pray our prayers seem unclear and confused...as if they are not getting anywhere...a little wrinkled. Other times we actually ask for the wrong things because we don't know what the best solution for the problem would be...we ask for what we want instead of asking for His will to be given....again they are wrinkled. Our prayers become messy --- like my wrinkled shirt. But, I also know the Holy Spirit straightens out those prayers so when they get to God the Father, they are all "neat and smooth" and make perfect sense.
Sometimes I am uncertain what to say when I pray. But I do know God wants me to come to him with anything, and everything. The Holy Spirit knows our hearts and knows our burdens and concerns. This is a good lesson for me to learn....that if I will allow Him to , God will smooth out the wrinkles in my life.....starting with my heart and my prayer life.
"The Holy Spirit helps us in our distress. For we don't even know what we should pray for, nor how we should pray. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groaning that cannot be expressed in words." Romans 8:26
Wont you join me in ironing out the wrinkles of our prayer lives? Let's pray freely to God and watch how smoothly it all goes!!! :)
